What I have learned in semester 1 ...

During the first semester, I was taught so many details in Programming which added up to what I have previously learned during matriculation. I felt very fortunate because Programming has been my favourite subject since matriculation, and we still use C++ in the first semester in UKM. Therefore, it was easy for most of us because we already got used to the C++ language. Some of the new things I learned include Functions, Cstrings, Struct and Arrays.

On the other hand, there were also a few other new subjects that have been introduced to us, namely Computer Organization and Operating System, Self Improvement I, and the two mathematics subjects which are Discrete Mathematics and Statistics & Probability.

I noticed that the Self Improvement I subject was quite similar to what I have previously learned in school which was Pendidikan Sivik and also in matriculation which was Kemahiran Dinamika. Hence, most of my friends and I could cope easily with the subject. The subject taught us the soft skills we need to acquire in our daily lives such as communication skills, leadership skills and social skills.

I'd say Computer Organization and Operating System was not really my cup of tea, as I am not the reading type. But it was not a big deal for me because my lecturers and friends were very helpful in guiding me with the subject. I have learned about the whole computer system, from the hardware to software, from the processors to BIOS. I also learned about the history of computer which was very interesting.

Both Discrete Mathematics and Statistics & Probability were also quite terrifying for me. I was told that I am good in maths subjects, but am not confident with them until now. Some of the topics were familiar from matriculation though, such as Logic in Discrete Mathematics and also the Probability Distributions in Statistics & Probability. All the other topics were new to me.
